New Societies Registration Act comes into play.
Bhubaneswar, May 21: The Societies Registration (Odisha Amendment) Act, 2021 today came into effect with the formal notification of the law, the state government said.
The government said that this was an attempt to bring transparency and accountability in the operations of institutions registered under the Societies Registration Act.
“For better monitoring and regulating the activities of both state and district level societies, the Societies Registration Act, 1860 was amended vide the Societies Registration (Odisha Amendment) Act, 2021 and notified vide Gazette No. 743 dated 13.05.2021 and the appointed date for coming into force of the said amended Act was notified today, i.e., on 21.05.2021,” the government said in a statement.
The government said that the new legislation would pave way for early disposal of cases based on intra-societal disputes.
The law makes the foundation for enabling an aggrieved person to move to the court of a senior civil judge and seek relief in such cases.
It allows the societies to operate for five years and get renewals after that period.
It also aims to safeguard the persons involved in such societies.
